What is Social Boston Sports®?
Social Boston Sports® was started in 2007 by four young professionals who had just graduated from college and wanted to make Boston an awesome place to live!
Today Social Boston Sports is a community of over 40,000 young professionals 21-35 who live, work and play in Boston. Our goal is to provide incredibly fun times for you and the rest of our growing community through coed recreational sports leagues, parties at your favorite bars around town, weekend get-aways, and experiential events around the city.
How do I sign-up?
Is there a membership fee?
Nope! Becoming an SBS member is totally free. You have the ability to get involved as often as your schedule allows, so you only pay for what you do.

Are there refunds? (updated 8/24/16)
Yes! We do provide refunds in most cases, however, there are times where we cannot. Our refund policy changes depending on what you signed up for. Read on!
When we provide refunds:
- Prior to the league registration deadline: 100% refund policy. As long as your request a refund BEFORE the registration deadline for that specific league, no matter the reason, we will honor your refund request, no questions asked. However, if it is AFTER the registration deadline we may not be able to refund you in full and we evaluate it on a case by case basis. There are two exceptions to this rule.
- 1) If you cannot get an entire team together and did not get into the league, regardless of the timing, you will get a full refund or we can transfer your to another league.
- 2) If we have to cancel the league for any reason, regardless of timing, we will issue you a full refund.
When we have to evaluate refunds on a case by case basis:
- Any time after the registration deadline.
When we provide refunds:
- For all local and New England trips, as long as we receive your refund request one month prior to the trip we will refund you 100%.
- For all trips requiring air fare, please refer to that specific event page for a schedule of refunds.
- 30 – 15 days from the trip: 50% refund
- 15 – 0 days from the trip: no refunds
*NOTE: SBS always allows you to transfer your ticket or spot to someone else if you can no longer come. Please email us and we will work with you to make it as easy and seamless as possible.
SINGLE DAY EVENTS:
- 30 – 15 days from the event: 50% refund
- 15 – 0 days from the event: no refunds
All refunds are refunded back to the purchasing card. Please allow between 24-72 hours (depending on your bank) for your refund to process to your statement.
How do I sign up? (or) Is it too late to sign up?
Use the nav bar up top. Select a league or event that currently has registrations open. Register and pay. Voila!
When registering for a league you have 4 options. You may register as a free agent in which case you’ll placed on a team of other free agents, you may sign up as a small group (where you want to be on the same team as one or a couple of friends), you can be a captain and sign up a full team, or you can sign up as a team player on your captain’s team.
When does the next league start?
Our leagues start and stop constantly throughout the year. There is no one start time for all leagues in the current upcoming season. If you don’t see something you’re looking for currently, chances are registrations will be open shortly. Our best recommendation is to sign up for a our newsletter to stay informed.

We might be short players some weeks, what do we do?
Forfeits are the worst so don’t show up short players and please don’t forfeit due to lack of players. During the regular season, bring some subs! It wouldn’t be social if we didn’t allow subs! Just make sure that they sign your team waiver before they play.
NOTE: During the regular season, weeks 1 – 6 you may bring subs to fill a full team out or ask players from the games prior or after your game to play with you that week. Subs are NOT ALLOWED on finals night.
I requested teammates, but they’re on a different Free Agents team. What gives?
One of two things is happening here.
One: League registration isn’t closed. We put people on teams at random while registration is open, then when it closes we go back and honor all the teammate requests. If it’s before registration has closed, don’t worry about it and we’ll get you on the same team with your requested teammates after registration closes.
Two: Registration has passed, you got a welcome email, and you’re not on the same team. In this case the request either didn’t go through or we missed it. Email email@example.com and we’ll get everything squared away.
I’m signing up as an individual, can I be placed on a team with a friend?
Yes, of course. When you register you may register as a free agent and make sure you put your friend(s) name(s) in the Teammate Request Field. We’ll do the rest. 99.9 percent of the time we can honor these requests, sometimes we cannot. You may also sign up as a small group and create or join a small group with one or more friends.
Is it mandatory to attend all games?
Forfeits are the worst because it ruins the experience had by the team you were set to play that week. Yes, they got a win for the books but they didn’t get to play a real game.
It is mandatory for teams to be represented for ALL games. Please plan accordingly. A team that does not show up affects other teams being able to play.
If for some reason your team cannot make it to your game, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org within 24 hours of your scheduled game.
Can I bring alcohol to my league?
No, there is no alcohol to be brought to or consumed at any Social Boston Sports® game. In our great state of Massachusetts it is against the law to consume alcohol outdoors. It is also against the rules of all our facilities where we play. SBS reserves the right to remove a player from the game without refund if SBS league officials see individuals breaking these rules or if an individual seems intoxicated upon arrival of a game. If the same member is caught again they will be suspended from the league without refund.
How/When do I pay?
You have 24 hours to pay for your spot. If you register, but don’t pay during that window, you will be removed from the league. You can rejoin or get re-invited. If you are a captain, your team must be registered and your spot paid for in order for your team spot to be reserved in the league.
How do I reserve a team spot? When is my team complete?
Your team’s spot is reserved in a league once it is “complete”. For a team to be “complete” it needs to meet the team minimum of players on the roster, gender minimums, and those players must have paid their dues. In the event that two “incomplete” teams are competing for the final spot in a league, the first team to “complete” its registration will get the remaining spot in the league.
What is “first-come first-served”?
All our leagues have a maximum number of team spots available, which is a factor of the permit we receive from the city. Those spots are given to the teams who “complete” their team first. Completing a team means you have met the roster minimums, gender requirements, and paid all league fees. Captains can see the status of their team in their player dashboard.
I’ve played before, but I am not very experienced. Can I still play?
Sure! Our leagues are designed to be social and recreational in nature. There is a wide range of abilities represented in our leagues. They are not meant to be intensely competitive. Practice makes perfect!
What are your tiebreakers if season standings are tied?

What is your cancellation policy? Do you reschedule games?
Great question! New England weather can be pretty crazy and unpredictable. We do our very best to play the games as scheduled, but now and again we have to cancel because of the weather. When this happens we do our absolute best to reschedule your game. If we are able to reschedule your game the entire season is extended. If for some reason we cannot reschedule we will have to cancel the game. There are no refunds for cancellations due to weather.
How old do you have to be to attend SBS events?
All SBS events and adventure trips are 21+.
I want to purchase more than one ticket/spot for an event or trip, how do I do that?
Our site only allows you to purchase one ticket per email address in order to ensure everyone signed up for an SBS event or adventure trip receives all information, emails, etc. If you would like to pay for someone else’s spot, or surprise them, please send us an email at email@example.com and we will be able to reassign their fees to you.
I can no longer attend the event I signed up for, can a friend take my place?
Yes, we can allow a friend to take your place, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can properly make the registration switch.

When do I receive the trip itinerary?
We’ll send out the info email and itinerary 3-7 days prior to the trip. Any information you will need to plan in advance for will already be provided on the trip info page. Information to come in the itinerary is all last minute information including timing of the weekend or events.
I have a special request for a trip that is not listed as an option.

Is transportation provided?
With the exception of our ski trips out West, we do not provide transportation for rafting or our East coast ski trips. HOWEVER, we do encourage and help coordinate car pooling from Boston to our trip destination. In 9 years we have never had anyone left behind in Boston because they didn’t have a car.
White Water Rafting
Are there any stoves or microwaves to cook with?
No, all lodging options are basically camping with different variations. Every year many groups successfully cook over the fire pits. There is also a great restaurant on site.
Are there showers and bathrooms?
A: Yes, there are same-sex bath houses with bathrooms and individual showers.
A bunch of my friends signed up with me, can we all be in the same bunk house?
If they have registered for a bunk house spot, we can accommodate groups to be put together. Generally bunk houses are kept as female or male per bunk house, unless an entire group of friends fill it.
What’s the BYOB/Bar situation?
The campground is BYOB. Across the street from the campground is the restaurant, bar, bonfire area, and where the party will be. Alcohol is not allowed to be transferred across the street and into this “service” area.
What other info do I need to know?
We will be sending out an itinerary with details for the entire trip. This will include everything you need to know including activities, location, times, etc. We have already provided all the pertinent information in regards to preparation for the trip. The itinerary does not contain any information that would require time to prepare for, that you have not already been provided with.

A group of my friends are signing up, can we be in the same condo or in a condo next to each other?
Yes, be sure to register as one group so we know you are all together. Condos sleep a minimum of 4 people and a max of 8 people. If your group needs more than one condo we will do our best to place you next to each other.
What are the condos equipped with?
Each condo has a full kitchen with everything you need to cook a nice meal after a long day. All linen, blankets, pillows and towels are also included. All condos also offer free WiFi.
I want to join the trip but don't ski/snowboard. Can I still come?
Yes, please join us! There is no need to know how to ski/ride to enjoy yourself on this trip. Take a lesson, enjoy the Pump House indoor water-park, or any of the bars and restaurants at the resort!
I don't ski/snowboard is there a discount price if I don't need the 3-day lift ticket?
No, this is a weekend package deal! Lift-tickets are included with your condo stay, so you are not paying extra for them.
None of my friends will commit to the trip, can I sign up as an individual?
Absolutely! We will pair you up in a condo with other individuals or condos with open space.
